FAQs
How much do you charge?
While I do have an hourly rate, I prefer to give my clients project pricing. Then you’ll know up front how my fee works for your budget.
How do you come up with a project rate?
I factor in variables such as how long it’s taken me to write a similar piece in the past, how many meetings I need to attend, how much research is required, etc. If the project scope changes radically midway through the job, we would discuss how much additional work would be required above and beyond the original quote.
What if you’ve never written for my industry?
Over the years as an agency pro and freelance consultant, I've written for numerous industries ranging from healthcare, financial services, IT and telecommunications to collections, insurance, travel, recreation and education. I know how to immerse myself in your "world" quickly, then I tailor my marketing expertise to fit your unique project. You’ll see the payoff quickly when you have another go-to writer you can depend on for the long term.
What if the type of project I need is not on your list of capabilities?
My writing experience is diverse, so it’s likely I can put my expertise to work for you. Plus, when you work with me, you gain access to my trusted network of seasoned graphic designers, web experts and other marketing professionals, which allows me to provide turnkey programs. Feel free to call or email me to discuss your project needs.
My agency is making a pitch for new business, but it's on spec. Now what?
You need big ideas and kick-ass creative, but it's tough to put a lot of money on the line for business you may or may not get. Let's talk and find a way to work together.
What do you mean by the "voice" of the brand?
Voice is a key ingredient for establishing and reinforcing your brand in copy. Just as people have unique voices, complete with distinct word choices, language, tone, pitch, etc., so too should your brand. More importantly, the voice should be consistent across your marketing components, which can be difficult if you have several different writers working on your projects. I can write copy to fit your brand's voice or work with you to establish a voice for your brand and ensure that it is used consistently throughout your marketing materials.
Where do you work?
I'm based in Chicago, but I work with folks from New York to New Zealand, thanks to the internet and Skype. I do not work on-site, but am available for meetings and presentations as necessary.
